Gingerbread Hunt in Kindergarten [Free Gingerbread Hunt Cards Included]

Last week we spent the week reading TONS of gingerbread books. We read the Gingerbread Man, Gingerbread Boy, Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Baby, Gingerbread Cowboy, the Gingerbread Bear, the Gingerbread Pirates....you name it, I have it!! I probably have and read WAY too many gingerbread books this week.  Is there such thing of too many gingerbread books?
Well, on Friday we had a guest reader (a student's grandmother) in for our 'book and cook'.  We read, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School
When she was done reading we talked about what we would do if a gingerbread man got loose in our school.  The kids said, ' no way that could ever actually happen!' I agreed ;)
Then, each table was given a gingerbread cookie kit.  They had to work together to create a gingerbread man, girl, baby, boy, pirate, anything their little hearts desired!
I found the kits at our local Publix; however, you can also find them HERE.
When they were done, we had 4 delicious looking cookies! But, it was our playground time so we went out to the park and I promised the students we would be able to eat our cookies as soon as we got back!
On our way to the park we realized we forgot to tell our gingerbread cookies to stay put! So we turned around to tell them, just in case they were going to run!
(I had our guest reader hide them for me in the classroom next door).
But, when we got back to our room to tell them, they were already gone! We found a clue on our front board and followed the clues around the school.  The kids LOVED it!
You can download these gingerbread hunt cards for free by clicking on the image below.

While we were on our 'hunt' the grandmother put our cookies back into our room.  The last clue led us back to our classroom and there they were!  We ate them as fast as would could so they wouldn't run away again!
Delicious!

Friday Cafe!

I totally forgot to share this ADORABLE cooking activity with you!! During our America unit my students fell in love with watching the bald eagles HERE. We still check in on the eagles a couple times throughout the week and we are waiting for her eggs to hatch! So exciting! The students also made their very own, edible, bald eagle....

I was surprised that all of the children liked eating this little guy, because I don't like coconut AT ALL! We used a cookie for the bottom, a large marshmallow covered in vanilla icing for the top, rolled it in coconut for the feathers, added 2 chocolate chips for the eyes and a gold fish for the nose....so cute!! I don't know about your students, but mine absolutely love anything to do with cooking activities :)

October Activities

This is kind of a random post, but I wanted to share some cute activities that we did this month.  Last week we learned all about bats and at our Friday Cafe we made some of our own, YUM!

This week we talked more about spiders.  The children did SUCH a good job on their spider books.  I love them!! If you want a copy I am attaching the link.  When you put the book in for copies...copy page 1 and 2 front and back and page 3 and 4 front and back.  It is much easier to prep that way! :)

My students also worked on some Halloween Riddles.
Give all the students a 'flip book'
Then have them glue on their riddles and try to answer them.
Have the students open it up and draw a picture of the answer!

Fire Safety Week

To kick off fire safety week my children walked into the classroom, only to find..... our dollhouse on fire!!!
My fire could have probably been a little better, but I had a morning conference and was a little rushed!  The kids still loved it :)  Using the dollhouse people, all the kids practiced a fire safety plan.  We discussed the best route to get out, having a meeting place with your family, then calling 911.  Luckily when we were finished, a little fire truck wheeled in and put the fire out! Phew!!
Later that morning we made a yummy fire truck snack.
Anything with icing is always a hit in my class! We will continue to do some other cute lessons throughout the week on fire safety, but this sure got them excited!!
p.s. I didn't have time this weekend to get together a little giveaway, but no worries! One is on the way soon!

Friday Cafe

Every Friday our class does a cooking project that correlates with the theme.  I usually put the cooking activity at one of their morning rotations.  This year I am sending out an email the Friday prior to let the parents know what donations I will need.  Then they 'reply to all' with the ingredient that they will send in.  You can do it this way or if you don't want so many emails you can send out all your cooking activities for the month (or for a couple of months) and have parents sign up to bring the ingredients for the week.  Right now this is our 'Friday Cafe,' but if you have any other cute ideas please let me know!!! So far we have made:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Trees

'All About Me' faces
Apple Trees

Coming up soon in our Friday Cafe we have:
-Apple taste testing: Trying red, green, and yellow apples-plain, with peanut butter, and with caramel.  We will also try apple juice and apple pie! Yum!
-Fire trucks for our mini theme on careers and Fire Safety Week
(pictures to come)

Enjoy!
