St. Patrick's Day Craft and Other Fun Ideas

St. Patrick's Day is a magical time for the kids.  We always read some fun St. Patrick's books that day and make a leprechaun trap in groups (STEM). We also do a fun cooking activity together!
For writing on St. Patrick's Day we make this super cute leprechaun craft. There are different writing options to choose from, and I give my students the choice of what writing page they want. You can grab this craft HERE.
Another one of my favorite things to do is put on music and work on a directed drawing.
I love First Grade Blue Skies directed drawing activities and she has a great leprechaun FREEBIE HERE.  These make for a very relaxing afternoon! A great Friday activity!
Another one of my favorites is this FREEBIE HERE from Sunny Days. It was made for a second grade classroom, but I think kindergarten and first graders would love it as well! Being a mom, I LOVE these kind of keepsake projects!
This would be a great way to turn your cooking project into a STEM project as well! Instead of play-doh, you can use large marshmallows or even the small white powdered donuts!! This way your cooking project is totally independent! You can grab this FREEBIE HERE from Creatively Teaching First.

I would love to hear your fun ideas for St. Patrick's Day below!

Silly McGilly (Giveaway!)

Recently, I received an email from 3 sisters from New Jersey telling me all about Silly McGilly.  A little leprechaun who will help bring some fun and excitement (and learning) to your classroom during the month of March!
Well, today I received Silly McGilly and I was BEYOND excited to get started! Right away we opened the package and read the story. The story explains that the leprechaun we have is just a toy doll. But, if you place the doll in the window of your classroom at night, it is an invitation for a real leprechaun to come visit and play a trick!
After I read the story, I passed around our new leprechaun doll.  The kids loved him!!
They were SO excited! Look at that face!
Some of the children even wrote notes for the Leprechaun.  This one made me smile...'Do something that makes me laugh.'
Silly McGilly is now in our window.  I wonder what will happen when we arrive at school on Monday?!
You can head over to Silly McGilly's site to find sample activities and tricks that will enhance learning.
I am so excited to use Silly McGilly in the classroom this year and many more years to come!! Such a great idea!
If you would like to purchase your own Silly McGilly and his book you can HERE, or you can enter to win your own copy on my Facebook page HERE.  Good luck!

Naughty Leprechaun Story and Giveaway!

Yay!! My Naughty Leprechaun Story came in the mail and I am SUPER excited about it!! My students had a blast with the Elf On The Shelf and I know they will just get a kick out of this!!!

The Naughty Leprechaun comes with a special coin. The coin allows students to choose who will visit each night--Liam or Leyland.  One leprechaun leaves a small treasure as a reward for doing your best. The other leprechaun creates mischief and pranks!
If the students are good throughout the day then they get to choose which leprechaun will come to visit (I have a feeling mine will love the mischief and pranks!) But, if they don't work hard and do their best, then they don't get to choose...it is just up to luck!

The book explains the story behind the two brothers and at the end explains how on the last night before St. Patrick's Day both brothers will visit the class! They will even leave behind a small (hidden) prize.

Overall, the basis of the story is to get children to do their very best! I am excited to try this out with my kids for the first time this year. I am hoping it gets them motivated just like our class Elf did!! :)

You can read more about the Naughty Leprechaun Story HERE.

You can also enter to win your free book and coin below!! Good luck!
