St. Patrick's Day Craft and Other Fun Ideas

St. Patrick's Day is a magical time for the kids.  We always read some fun St. Patrick's books that day and make a leprechaun trap in groups (STEM). We also do a fun cooking activity together!
For writing on St. Patrick's Day we make this super cute leprechaun craft. There are different writing options to choose from, and I give my students the choice of what writing page they want. You can grab this craft HERE.
Another one of my favorite things to do is put on music and work on a directed drawing.
I love First Grade Blue Skies directed drawing activities and she has a great leprechaun FREEBIE HERE.  These make for a very relaxing afternoon! A great Friday activity!
Another one of my favorites is this FREEBIE HERE from Sunny Days. It was made for a second grade classroom, but I think kindergarten and first graders would love it as well! Being a mom, I LOVE these kind of keepsake projects!
This would be a great way to turn your cooking project into a STEM project as well! Instead of play-doh, you can use large marshmallows or even the small white powdered donuts!! This way your cooking project is totally independent! You can grab this FREEBIE HERE from Creatively Teaching First.

I would love to hear your fun ideas for St. Patrick's Day below!

Penguin Craft (Informational)

We LOVE learning about Penguins!! It may be one of my favorite units to teach too.  As we read our informational penguin books, we add all of our learned info onto a KWL.
I ask my kids questions from the KWL every morning before we read another book to make sure that they are remembering all of the info that they have learned. For instance, 'raise your hand if you can tell me three different things that penguins eat.' My kids LOVE showing what they know!!
So we decided to make this cute informational penguin so students can really show off everything that they have learned!
We make one page a day so students don't rush through their work.
Then when we are done, we staple our books onto the belly of our penguin craft.
These cute penguins make an amazing bulletin board display. We have gotten so many compliments from not only fellow teachers (who are very impressed with our work) but our principal too!

Five for Friday! (YAY for Friday!)

I am soo happy that it is Friday! I am absolutely exhausted!
Here are my 'five for Friday'...
1. The Naughty AND the Nice Leprechaun came to visit us today! The nice Leprechaun brought us some yummy treats, but the naughty Leprechaun made a MESS!! My students couldn't believe it! But, they were nice enough to clean it all up ;)

2. Today was the last day of our 4 week unit on America! The kids have learned so much AND each one can sing the presidents song!! By themselves! It is awesome :) Here they are 'measuring up' against Abraham Lincoln today.
3. Since all of the America crafts were coming down, today we made some Spring Craftivities to decorate the room. I LOVE how they came out! They look so bright and beautiful :) You can find them HERE
4. Last night our school had Parents night at the book fair. This morning I received this book and c.d. from a student with the attached note. I am glad to know that my little ones think I am as beautiful as Gwyneth Paltrow! haha
5. AHHHH!! ONE MORE WEEK until I will be in Vail for Spring Break!! I have never been skiing or snowboarding or anything and I am SO super excited to go!!

Head on over to Doodle Bugs to read what everyone else was up to today!!
