Earth Day in K!

I love celebrating and teaching about Earth Day in kindergarten. I think it is so important to start teaching them the importance of taking care of our Earth at an early age!
We decided to take Earth Day outside this year and have a painting and picnic party!
Each child painted a flower pot.  We used acrylic paint that was fast drying and would be bright and colorful!
Then I gave the students the options of choosing which type of seeds that they wanted to plant.  After we planted the seeds they each made a little sign to add to their flower pot so we knew what was growing inside!
After our picnic, we headed inside to cool off and do some more, fun, painting!
This idea is from Maria over at Kinder-Craze.
We played music while we painted and it was so relaxing!
Then it was time for a little treat! I quickly printed off some tree clip art and let the kids each color in one tree.  We taped our trees onto a spoon and then created the soil to 'plant' them! Worms and dirt is always a favorite!
I want to hear all about your kindergarten ideas!! To make that easier, I decided to start a Kindergarten Smiles Facebook Group! I would love for you to join and start collaborating! Just click HERE to request!

Orange 'ya glad it's a Blog Hop?

Yay! I am excited to be a part of a Florida blogger's hop!! I am actually the last stop :)
First, I have a fun product to show off today. We have been learning all about plants this past week!
One of their centers was walking through the 'garden' and finding different words that would build a sentence. I told them that when they were finished they would be able to read a secret message...they were so excited!!
After they found the words they read their message and had to illustrate what it said...
We have also been working on plant parts. Here is one of my little boys labeling and coloring her flower.
In math some of my students had to sort their addition problems under the right number. They loved this!
Then they recorded the equations onto their activity sheet.
All of these activities and many more can be found in my plant unit below...
I have also added the last page of my word work center cards! I have been updating this pack every month and sadly, this is the last one I am going to add to this file! Don't worry there is more coming...but they won't be added into this document :) Just click below to see more of this product.

Grass Heads and More...

I feel like I have totally disappeared from blogging...I haven't told you all about our plant unit and I am already coming close to ending our space unit! Where has the time gone??
I have been completing all of my students FAIR testing, preparing for our big parent appreciation show, I started working out again (finally!), and I have also been taking my class to swimming lessons everyday...imagine changing 21 little ones back into their dry clothes everyday for 2 weeks! AH!!
Okay..enough complaining ;)
Here is a picture of how some of our grass heads turned out...

The children love making these! They can't believe that the grass grows through their socks :) As the grass grows I let them give their 'heads' haircuts and all! So fun!

We also have been working on multiple meaning words. I wrote a bunch of words down and put them in a hat. Each child chose one word and had to come up with 2 meanings for that word. Here is an example:
If you would like the activity above, click HERE.

Have a great night! And I promise I won't disappear for so long again ;)
